Robbie Williams has caught fans off guard with a surprise album drop.
The British Pop icon has released his 13th studio album, aptly titled ‘Britpop‘ – earlier than anticipated.
The set project features previously released singles ‘Rocket,‘ ‘Spies,‘ ‘Human‘, ‘Pretty Face, and ‘All My Life.‘
High-profile collaborators on the album include Chris Martin of Coldplay, Gaz Coombes from Supergrass, Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, Mexican Pop duo Jesse & Joy, and his Take That comrade, Gary Barlow.
To celebrate the unexpected release, the album’s striking cover art – featuring the singer in his iconic red tracksuit from Glastonbury 1995 – was projected onto famous London landmarks, including Marble Arch in the early morning hours.
Speaking on the surprise drop, Williams said:
“You thought it was gonna be then… then we decided it wasn’t… and now I’ve decided it’s now. Ladies and Gentlemen: ‘BRITPOP’ – the album.”
The 11-track project positions itself as a sonic return to the Britpop era that dominated UK music in the mid-90s, with the former Take That member delivering a guitar-driven, anthemic sound.
Williams will support the album with his ‘Long 90’s Tour’ next month, performing at intimate venues across the UK, including Glasgow’s Barrowlands Ballroom (February 4), Liverpool Olympia (February 6), London’s O2 Academy Brixton (February 8), and Wolverhampton Civic Hall (February 9). All shows are sold out.
During these performances, he’ll play his debut album ‘Life Thru A Lens‘ and ‘Britpop‘ in their entirety.
