It’s a historic week for One Direction fans as two members of the iconic boy band simultaneously top the UK charts.
Harry Styles has scored his third Official #1 single with ‘Aperture’, the lead track from his upcoming fourth studio album ‘KISS ALL THE TIME. DISCO, OCCASIONALLY.’, while Louis Tomlinson landed at #1 on the Official Albums Chart with ‘How Did I Get Here?’ The achievement marks the first-ever solo One Direction chart double, with both members dominating their respective charts in the same week.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive Officer of Official Charts, celebrated the milestone:
“It’s precisely 15 years this year since One Direction topped the Official Singles Chart for the first time with What Makes You Beautiful and, after Robbie Williams last week demonstrated how enduring our pop-group-member-turned-solo-stars can be, it is fantastic to see Harry and Louis topping the Official Charts again this week. A reminder (if we ever needed one) of the timeless appeal of arguably the world’s favourite 21st Century boy band.”
The feat echoes the band’s own Official Chart Double from November 2012, when ‘Little Things’ and ‘Take Me Home’ topped the Singles and Albums Charts respectively.
For Styles, the chart success comes alongside multiple record-breaking announcements for his ‘Together, Together’ tour. His 12-night run at London’s Wembley Stadium will surpass Coldplay‘s previous 10-night stint and breaks the venue’s record for most concerts performed by a solo artist during a single run, trumping Taylor Swift‘s eight-night stretch in 2024. The Cheshire native is also set to perform at The BRIT Awards 2026 with Mastercard on February 28. Additionally, his former chart-topper ‘As It Was’ re-enters the Top 40 for the first time since 2024, landing at #8.
Meanwhile, Tomlinson’s third studio album earns him his second chart-topping solo release, following 2022’s ‘Faith In The Future’. Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, the Doncaster-born artist said:
“I can’t quite believe I’m saying this, but How Did I Get Here is this week’s Official #1 album. I’m so incredibly grateful for all the passion and dedication of the fans to help make it all possible. THANK YOU!”
Tomlinson also topped the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, shifting the most copies on wax over the past seven days. The surge in Styles’ success also saw both ‘Harry’s House’ (#16) and ‘Fine Line’ (#25) climb the charts.
