Melanie C delivered a nostalgia-packed moment for Spice Girls fans while still keeping things firmly in the present during a special stop at BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room.
Appearing live on Vernon Kay’s mid-morning show, the Pop icon performed alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra at London’s Maida Vale Studios, with arranger Rob Eckland adding orchestral drama to every beat.
She opened with the group’s 1996 Christmas number one ‘2 Become 1’, then shifted into her solo chart-topper ‘I Turn To You’, before debuting her latest single ‘What Could Possibly Go Wrong?’ from her forthcoming album ‘Sweat’.
Reflecting on the Spice Girls journey, she told Vernon:
“We really respect, love and cherish each other. There’s no one else on the planet who knows what happened, what we all went through together.”
Melanie also admitted she felt nervous walking into such an iconic space, describing it as an honour and saying performing with the orchestra brought “a whole new depth and drama” to her music, especially when sharing new material in that setting.
