The wait is almost over. BTS has officially confirmed that its long-awaited comeback is heading to Netflix, and it is coming in two major parts.
The seven-member group will perform live from Seoul’s historic Gwanghwamun Square on March 21, with the performance streaming globally at 8 PM KST (4 AM PST / 7 AM EST).
One week later, on March 27, an exclusive feature-length documentary chronicling the making of the album arrives on the platform.
The live special, titled ‘BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG’, marks a monumental moment for the group, whose fifth studio album ‘ARIRANG’ drops on March 20. The performance itself is being produced by Done + Dusted, with Hamish Hamilton directing. It is also Netflix’s first-ever live event broadcast from Korea to be livestreamed globally, expanding the platform’s already robust live programming slate that has included WWE, NFL games, and high-profile boxing matches.
Then comes the documentary. ‘BTS: THE RETURN’, directed by Bao Nguyen and produced by This Machine and HYBE, takes viewers inside the reunion of RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook as they reunite in Los Angeles to create new music after completing South Korea’s mandatory military service. The film explores how the members navigate the shift from solo projects back into the shared creative space, all while millions of fans await their return.
The documentary promises unprecedented access to the group’s creative process. According to the official synopsis, it follows the members as they confront questions about how to begin again, how to honor the past without being bound by it, and how to move forward together. It is described as intimate, emotional, and often joyful, offering a portrait of resilience, brotherhood, and reinvention that only BTS can tell.
The comeback has already broken records before it has even happened. Pre-orders for ‘ARIRANG’ surpassed 4.06 million copies in its first week, and the accompanying ARIRANG World Tour (2026-2027) will span 34 regions and 82 shows across Asia, North and Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond. The live performance at Gwanghwamun is a ticketed event, with more details to be shared soon.
