It’s not good news for ‘Wicked: For Good.’
The highly anticipated sequel to Jon M. Chu‘s 2024 blockbuster has been completely shut out of the 2026 Oscars.
The film, which continues the story of the witches of Oz, failed to land a single nomination when the Academy announced its nominations this morning.
The snub is particularly jarring given that the first installment racked up 10 nominations at the 2025 ceremony. Perhaps the most surprising omission is in the Best Original Song category. Composer Stephen Schwartz crafted two new tracks for the sequel: ‘The Girl in the Bubble,’ performed by Ariana Grande, and ‘No Place Like Home,’ performed by Cynthia Erivo. The first film wasn’t eligible in that category as it featured only music from the stage musical.
Both the Houston native and Grande scored Golden Globe nominations earlier this year for their performances, and both of Schwartz’s original songs were recognized at the January ceremony as well. The sequel picks up where the 2024 film left off, diving deeper into the complicated history between Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda/Glinda (the Good Witch). Chu shot both movies back-to-back over 160 days, with production wrapping in early 2024 after being delayed by the strikes.
