The Golden Globes red carpet will be missing one of its most fashion-forward stars this Sunday. Cynthia Erivo won’t be in attendance at the 83rd annual ceremony, despite earning a nomination for her work in ‘Wicked: For Good.’
The Tony-winning actress is currently deep in production for her West End debut in ‘Dracula,’ where she’s set to portray 23 characters in the one-woman adaptation.
With previews beginning February 4 in London, the star is reportedly unable to make the trip to Los Angeles for the ceremony, which takes place on January 11. The ambitious production, directed by Kip Williams, has her fully committed to rehearsals.
Erivo’s Golden Globes nomination marks her fifth overall and her second in the lead actress (comedy or musical) category. She made history as the first Black woman nominated twice in that category.
The 37-year-old is competing against Rose Byrne, Kate Hudson, Chase Infiniti, Amanda Seyfried, and Emma Stone.
Meanwhile, ‘Wicked: For Good’ has earned five total nominations, including a nod for co-star Ariana Grande in the supporting actress category.
