Robbie Williams has officially made UK chart history. The Pop icon now holds the record for the most #1 albums of all time on the Official Albums Chart, surpassing The Beatles.
With the release of his 13th studio album ‘BRITPOP,’ the Stoke-on-Trent native has secured his 16th chart-topping LP as a solo artist, edging past John, Paul, George, and Ringo in one of the most prestigious records in UK music history.
Responding to the milestone, Williams shared his gratitude:
“‘BRITPOP’ is the record I’ve always wanted to make, and seeing it become my 16th Number 1 album means everything to me. Thank you to all the fans who have been with me every step of the way. You’ve made my dreams come true.”
The former Take That member’s chart dominance spans nearly three decades, beginning with 1997’s ‘Life Thru A Lens’ and continuing through hits like ‘I’ve Been Expecting You,’ ‘Sing When You’re Winning,’ ‘Escapology,’ ‘Intensive Care,’ and most recently ‘Better Man’ in 2025. His only studio album to miss the top spot was 2009’s ‘Reality Killed The Video Star,’ which peaked at #2.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive Officer of Official Charts, celebrated the achievement:
“Congratulations Robbie! There are chart records and there are chart records – and Robbie Williams’ achievement today in securing his record 16th UK #1 album is simply extraordinary. Not even the confident young 16-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent would have believed this were possible when he joined Take That back in 1990, but here he is, on top of the world, the UK’s #1 album artist – of all time! Just let that sink in, Robbie!”
The record-breaking moment arrives ahead of the Official Albums Chart’s 70th anniversary, which launched in July 1956. Official Charts will celebrate the milestone with a special season honoring the art of the album this summer.
