It was the mash-up that had the UK masses talking and, clearly, watching too! Coronation Street and Emmerdale collided in the ambitious crossover event now known as ‘Corriedale.’
The hour-long ITV special, which aired on January 5, has proven to be a ratings smash.
It drew a peak live audience of 4.7 million viewers, averaging 4.2 million across its broadcast.
That figure marks the biggest live audience for a soap in more than a year and the largest peak since 2022, excluding Christmas Day episodes. Across all broadcasters and streamers, it stands as the most-watched drama moment since ‘Call the Midwife’ in early 2025.
Set against a dramatic multi-vehicle pile-up, the crossover ignited huge online buzz, racking up more than 140 million impressions across social platforms.
Viewers gushed over the episode, which was even saluted as “absolute cinema,” with many applauding an ambition rarely seen in soap storytelling.
Could more soap crossovers be on the cards? After ‘Corriedale,’ we here at Fresh Quench would love to see it!
