Billie Eilish fans will have to wait a little longer for her 3D concert documentary. The release of ‘Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft,’ which she’s co-directing with James Cameron, has been pushed back two months.
Taking to Threads and Instagram on Monday, the ‘Titanic’ director announced that Paramount will now release the film on May 8. Originally scheduled for a March 20 premiere, the delay is attributed to technical refinements and additional behind-the-scenes material.
Cameron shared:
“We’re refining the cut; dialing in cool, new 3D tech; adding some special behind-the-scenes we know you’ll love. @hitmehardandsoftmovie will now release Friday, May 8th. Worth the wait!”
The documentary captures performances from the ‘Birds of a Feather’ singer’s tour supporting her latest album. The project was filmed at multiple concerts, including shows in Manchester, England last July. During one of those performances, the nine-time Grammy winner teased the collaboration to the crowd, revealing that the ‘Avatar’ filmmaker was somewhere in the audience.
The film marks a rare directorial effort for the 23-year-old, who previously explored documentary territory with ‘Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry’ in 2021 and the concert special ‘Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles.’
Made in partnership with Darkroom Records, Interscope Films, and Lightstorm Earth, the project represents Cameron’s first non-‘Avatar’ directorial work since the franchise began dominating his schedule. Speaking of which, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ recently surpassed $1.3 billion globally and has been dominating the box office since its December release.
