‘The Morning Show’ continues to serve as a must-see, and it’s receiving its due as a result.
Moments ago, Apple TV+ announced that it is doubling down on its commitment to the series, which is led by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.
For, a mere matter of hours before the debut of season four, the streamer officially announced that the Emmy-winning series has been renewed for a fifth installment.
Starring and executive produced by the Hollywood screen titans, ‘The Morning Show’ follows the high-stakes world of broadcast journalism through the lives of anchors at a fictional TV network.
The renewal marks another milestone for one of Apple TV+’s flagship titles, which first premiered with the launch of the platform in 2019.
Charlotte Stoudt will continue as showrunner, with Mimi Leder returning as director and executive producer for the upcoming season.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, said in a statement:
“The Morning Show has been a standout from the very start, debuting as one of the flagship series on Apple TV+. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see it not only entertain but also resonate with audiences worldwide. Thanks to the outstanding cast and creative team, led by Jennifer, Reese, Charlotte and Mimi, ‘The Morning Show’ continues to deliver addictively entertaining and provocative stories that we’ve all come to love.”
Season four, which premieres this week, takes place in early 2024 but will not center around the presidential election.
Speaking at the show’s red carpet premiere, Stoudt noted:
“We try to go at it sideways. We don’t really have, directly, an election story, but we do touch on the idea of: Why were two older white men running for president?”
Returning cast members include Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm. New additions to the ensemble are Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Boyd Holbrook, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons.
Michael Ellenberg, CEO of Media Res and executive producer of the series, concluded:
“It’s an honor to witness the collective talent, passion and commitment of Jen, Reese, Mimi, Charlotte, our partners at Hello Sunshine and Echo Films, and everyone involved in ‘The Morning Show. We’re so grateful to Apple TV+ and to the fans around the world, and can’t wait for viewers to see this upcoming season and beyond.”
We’ll be watching.
