Another long-running Hollywood relationship has quietly come to an end. Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross have separated after nine years together, closing a chapter that largely unfolded away from the spotlight.
The Oscar-winning actor-director and the screenwriter confirmed the split in a joint statement shared with PEOPLE, emphasizing that their focus remains firmly on family.
Speaking exclusively to the outlet, the former couple said:
“Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible.”
The pair, who met through mutual friends in 2014, quietly went their separate ways around a year ago. They share an 8-year-old son, Lars, whom they plan to continue co-parenting. Ross welcomed Lars in 2017, just days before the Braveheart filmmaker earned a Best Director Oscar nomination for ‘Hacksaw Ridge’.
Despite the personal change, Gibson has remained professionally active. He was last seen on the red carpet with Lars in 2024 at the premiere of ‘Monster Summer’, and he is currently developing ‘The Resurrection of the Christ,’ a follow-up to his 2004 biblical epic.
