Shia LaBeouf‘s Mardi Gras weekend has ended in handcuffs.
The actor was arrested shortly after midnight Tuesday in New Orleans after allegedly fighting with two men on Royal Street. According to the New Orleans Police Department, LaBeouf was reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at a bar when a staff member attempted to remove him from the premises.
After being ejected, he allegedly hit one man multiple times with closed fists before leaving, only to return in an even more aggressive state. Multiple people attempted to hold him down and let him up “in hopes that he would leave,” per the police report, but he allegedly resumed hitting the same man before punching another person in the nose. He was held down until police arrived.
LaBeouf was taken to a hospital for undisclosed injuries before being arrested and charged with two counts of simple battery.
The incident follows an extended bar crawl LaBeouf had reportedly been on since Thursday through New Orleans’ Uptown neighborhood, according to employees at various establishments. The arrest is notable given the 38-year-old had previously claimed sobriety and attributed past abusive behavior to alcoholism.
No further statement has been made as of writing.
