‘The Pitt’ will play on.
HBO Max is keeping the doors open at its most intense emergency room. Noah Wyle will be back in scrubs, as the streamer has officially renewed the show for a third season, further cementing the medical drama as one of its most prized originals.
The announcement was made by HBO CEO Casey Bloys on January 7 during the Season 2 premiere event at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles, arriving just a day before the Emmy-winning second season debuted.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill, the series has carved out a distinctive lane by unfolding each season over a single hospital shift, with every episode capturing one hour inside a Pittsburgh emergency room.
That ambitious format has clearly paid off. The debut season earned 13 Emmy nominations (no small feat!) and walked away with five wins, including Best Drama, casting honors, and acting trophies for Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, and Shawn Hatosy. More recently, the show landed additional recognition with Actor and DGA nominations, underscoring its staying power.
Speaking after the Emmy wins, Bloys praised the series for balancing creative ambition with sustainability, highlighting the streamlined single-set approach and the team’s ability to deliver a 15-episode season on a reliable annual schedule.
Alongside the Chicago-born actor, the ensemble includes Katherine LaNasa, Shawn Hatosy, Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez, with Sepideh Moafi joining in Season 2 as Dr. Al-Hashimi.
HBO Max has yet to confirm when cameras will roll on Season 3, but the commitment to ‘The Pitt’ is palpable
