As buzz continues to build around the future of ‘Heated Rivalry,’ the woman who started it all is weighing in.
Rachel Reid, author of the novels that inspired the hit TV adaptation, has shared her hopes for Season 2 as the series quietly moves forward.
The breakout series, which streams on HBO Max and Crave, quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its emotionally charged storytelling and beloved central romance. And according to Reid, the creative vision for what comes next is already aligning behind the scenes.
Speaking about ongoing conversations with creator Jacob Tierney, Reid made it clear the core relationship remains non-negotiable.
“I think we’re on the same page about it,” she told Variety, noting that the focus must remain on Ilya and Shane.
She also addressed the unexpected fan response to Scott and Kip, explaining:
“Not that we weren’t expecting it, but I think we’re all surprised at how popular Scott and Kip were.”
Reid shared that she hopes Season 2 pulls heavily from her novel ‘The Long Game’, while also weaving in elements from ‘Role Model’, which overlaps chronologically.
“I’m hoping that we’ll get both stories told at the same time… I’m hoping we get more episodes.”
As for episode count, the author would happily go big.
“I’d go as high as 12, but maybe if it was just eight or 10, that would be nice.”
With Season 2 already in development, the buzz is palpable.
