Nintendo and Universal have unveiled the first look at ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.’
The highly anticipated sequel dropped its trailer during Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct livestream, giving fans a glimpse of the plumber brothers’ cosmic adventure.
The footage opens with Mario and Luigi teasing their shrunken nemesis Bowser, who’s still suffering the effects of that mini Mushroom from the first film’s finale. After the tiny villain gets rebuffed while showing off his Peach-themed artwork, the real journey begins. Shooting stars light up the sky, prompting our heroes to venture into the galaxy alongside Peach and Toad.
True to the beloved 2007 Wii game, the sequel features planetary exploration, including an aquatic world and a desert realm with inverted pyramids that the brothers navigate on motorcycles.
The trailer introduces two major additions to the cast: Brie Larson voices the formidable Princess Rosalina, while Benny Safdie brings Bowser Jr. to life. The young villain wields his signature magical paintbrush, coating himself in metal armor, while Rosalina showcases her powers by single-handedly dismantling a robotic spider creature.
Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Charlie Day all reprise their voice roles. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return alongside screenwriter Matthew Fogel.
The original film was a box office juggernaut, raking in $1.3 billion globally to become the fifth-highest-grossing animated movie ever. The sequel launches in theaters in 2026.
