Brendan Fraser is stepping into a role unlike any other.
Searchlight Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for ‘Rental Family,’ the upcoming drama starring the Oscar winner as a struggling American actor in Tokyo who takes an unconventional job at a “rental family” agency – a service where hired performers stand in for absent or “imaginary” relatives.
While on the job, Fraser’s character finds himself emotionally entrenched in the lives of his clients.
Because what started as a “performance” steadily morphs into something more authentic, prompting him to confront questions of identity, belonging, and connection in a world that increasingly smudges the line between fiction and reality.
Set in modern-day Japan, ‘Rental Family’ is directed and co-written by HIKARI, and also features Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Akira Emoto, and newcomer Shannon Gorman.
With a January 2026 release frame set, watch the first-look trailer below….
