Reality staple Jill Zarin has found herself at the center of a growing backlash after publicly criticising Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance, with many viewers branding her remarks offensive and out of touch.
The ‘Real Housewives of New York City’ alum shared a video to Instagram, since deleted but widely circulated on social media, in which she labelled the show “the worst halftime show ever.”
Speaking directly to the camera, Jill took issue with the performance being in Spanish and questioned its appropriateness for a family audience.
She said:
“It was the worst halftime show ever. I just don’t think it was appropriate to have it in Spanish and, quite frankly grabbing his groin area, I think it was totally inappropriate.”
She continued:
“I don’t speak Spanish, I would’ve liked to have known the words he was saying. To me, it looked like a political statement because there were literally no white people in the entire thing.”
Jill went on to speculate about the NFL’s intentions, suggesting the performance was politically motivated, comments that quickly sparked outrage online.
She also took a swipe at Lady Gaga’s appearance during the broadcast, claiming she barely recognized the singer.
While Jill was not alone in voicing criticism, with Taylor Armstrong also posting her own reaction, the response to Jill’s remarks was swift, with many calling them insensitive and discriminatory.
