Wrestling fans were treated to a big one last night. During WWE‘s Royal Rumble broadcast out of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 2K Games dropped the first official gameplay trailer for ‘WWE 2K26’, and it is looking like the most stacked entry in the franchise to date.
The reveal came at the tail end of a multi-week rollout that saw the studio tease several special editions across recent WWE programming. But the headline moment came during Friday’s Royal Rumble Kickoff Show, when CM Punk was confirmed as the cover star of the Standard Edition.
It marks a return to the box art for the World Heavyweight Champion, who last graced a WWE game cover back in 2012 with ‘WWE ’13’.
Punk clearly didn’t take the moment lightly. Speaking on the news, the Chicago native said:
“As a kid, I could only dream of being on the cover of a video game. Now I join a very exclusive group of WWE Superstars who have done it twice.”
As for what players can expect on the mat, the new installment is bringing the goods. The roster clocks in at over 400 playable characters, making it the largest in franchise history. Four new match types have been added to the mix, including I Quit, Inferno, 3 Stages of Hell, and a franchise-first Dumpster Match. There is also a dedicated Showcase mode built around Punk himself, titled ‘Punked,’ which explores career highlights and Fantasy Warfare scenarios against WWE Legends.
Special editions hit on March 6, with the standard release following on March 13 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Pre-orders are live now.
