After emerging as one of the more unexpected box office standouts of the holiday season, Sydney Sweeney’s psychological thriller, ‘The Housemaid, is officially getting another chapter.
Lionsgate has now greenlit a sequel, titled ‘The Housemaid’s Secret,’ with production targeted for a 2026 start.
The follow-up adapts the second novel in Freida McFadden’s bestselling trilogy and continues the unsettling journey of Millie Calloway, the role that anchored the first film’s success.
‘Euphoria’ actress Sweeney is reportedly eyeing a return, both in front of the camera and as an executive producer.
Michele Morrone is also expected back in the mix, while Paul Feig is lined up to direct once again from a script helmed by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the original.
Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar starred opposite Sweeney in the first film, which followed a seemingly perfect job offer that spiraled into manipulation, obsession, and danger.
The original film has already pulled in more than $133 million globally, with international markets still rolling out. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson pointed to the loud audience response as a driving force behind the sequel push.
As of now, no official production date has been locked, but the studio appears keen to strike while the buzz is palpable.
Smart, we say. Smart.
