The Kennedy family is mourning a profound loss. Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of former US president John F Kennedy, has died at the age of 35, just weeks after publicly sharing her terminal cancer diagnosis.
Her death was confirmed on Tuesday via the JFK Library Foundation’s Instagram account, with a message signed by her husband, George, their two children, Edwin and Josephine, alongside her parents and siblings. The post described her as “our beautiful Tatiana,” adding that she will always remain in their hearts.
The daughter of former US ambassador Caroline Kennedy and artist Edwin Schlossberg, Tatiana was an environmental journalist who brought renewed attention to her illness in a widely shared essay last month. In the piece, published by The New Yorker, she revealed she was battling acute myeloid leukaemia with a rare mutation, diagnosed after doctors noticed abnormal blood counts following the birth of her second child.
In the essay, she also criticised her relative Robert F Kennedy Jr, warning that cuts to mRNA vaccine research could have serious consequences for cancer patients. She detailed rounds of chemotherapy, two stem cell transplants, and participation in clinical trials, while candidly sharing her fear that her young children might not remember her.
