Nick Jonas is opening up like never before.
The singer just dropped his new solo album ‘Sunday Best’ via Republic Records, his first solo project in nearly five years. The 11-track release marks a deeply introspective chapter for the Golden Globe and Grammy-nominated artist, drawing from the past two years of his life as both a husband and father.
To celebrate, he unveiled the music video for fan favorite ‘Gut Punch,’ directed by acclaimed filmmaker Anthony Mandler. The visual centers on a puppet named “Jick Nonas,” who represents the 33-year-old’s inner voice of self-doubt and criticism. Blending cinematic storytelling with surreal moments, it explores the tension between self-perception and reality.
The release caps off a packed week. He performed ‘Gut Punch’ on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,’ appeared on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers,’ and sat down with Jay Shetty for an honest conversation about identity, marriage, and fatherhood. Last night, he debuted new songs at an intimate show at Irving Plaza in New York, with two more album release shows scheduled tomorrow at Blue Note in Los Angeles.
Sonically, the album draws inspiration from his childhood singing in church choirs, featuring soulful arrangements and warmly layered instrumentation. As Jonas puts it: “This album was made over the course of the last two years, it was truly 33 years in the making.”
