It is finally official. Ariana Grandeand Jonathan Bailey are teaming up for a major stage event, with the pair confirmed to lead a revival of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Sunday in the Park With George’ in London. The announcement lands after weeks of speculation and a trail of subtle hints that had theatre fans on high alert.
The production will play at the Barbican Centre, with performances set to begin in summer 2027 and tickets going on sale this May.
The revival will be directed by Marianne Elliott, with design by Tom Scutt, and produced by Empire Street Productions in association with the Barbican.
Earlier this week, the ‘Wicked’ co-stars sparked buzz by sharing a joint Instagram post showing them seated in front of Georges Seurat’s iconic painting ‘A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,’ which famously inspired the musical. Bailey captioned the image with a lyric nod, writing, “All it has to be is good.”
The Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, which last appeared on Broadway in 2017, follows artist George Seurat and his modern-day great-grandson as both wrestle with art, ambition, and legacy. Fresh off their big-screen pairing as Glinda and Fiyero, this reunion marks a significant return to live theatre for both stars.
