Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has died at the age of 84.
The news was confirmed in a statement issued by his family.
Cheney served as the 46th Vice President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. He was a prominent figure in U.S. politics, known for his influential role in the 2003 invasion of Iraq and his broader impact on American foreign policy.
According to his family’s statement, Cheney died due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. He was surrounded by his wife Lynne and daughters Liz and Mary at the time of his passing.
During his career, Cheney also served as U.S. Representative from Wyoming, White House Chief of Staff to President Gerald Ford, and Secretary of Defense under President George H. W. Bush.
Many consider him one of the most powerful vice presidents in U.S. history.
