A Luigi Mangione supporter has been arrested after allegedly attempting to break the accused killer out of prison.
Mark Anderson, a 35-year-old Minnesota man, was arrested at MDC Brooklyn late Wednesday night after claiming to be an FBI agent with paperwork authorizing Mangione’s release. According to a criminal complaint cited by NBC News, prison workers became suspicious when Anderson only produced a Minnesota driver’s license after being asked for credentials.
The situation escalated when the Federal Bureau of Prisons discovered a barbecue fork and an object resembling a pizza cutter in his backpack. Anderson reportedly traveled to New York City for a job opportunity that fell through and had been working at a pizzeria. He was charged on Thursday (January 29) with impersonating an FBI agent.
Mangione remains at the notorious Brooklyn facility, which also houses high-profile inmates, including former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
The 26-year-old is awaiting both federal and state trials for the alleged December 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan.
The case has sparked widespread public attention, with Mangione developing a controversial fanbase online who view him as a symbol of frustration with the healthcare system.
