Barry Manilow has shared a serious health update with fans, revealing that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 82. The music icon disclosed the news in a candid Instagram post, explaining that the diagnosis came after a prolonged battle with bronchitis earlier this year.
According to the singer, an MRI ordered as a precaution uncovered a cancerous spot on his left lung that now requires surgery. Manilow stressed that the discovery was made early, calling it “pure luck” and crediting his doctor for being thorough. He added that physicians do not believe the cancer has spread and that he is undergoing further tests to confirm the assessment.
The diagnosis means Manilow will need surgery and a recovery period, forcing him to reschedule several January dates from his Christmas A Gift of Love concert run. He assured fans there will be no chemotherapy or radiation involved, joking that his treatment plan includes “chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”
Despite the setback, Manilow says he’s focused on healing and hopes to return to the stage in February.
