Piers Morgan has found himself sidelined at the start of the year after a night out in London took an unexpected turn. The outspoken broadcaster revealed he is recovering in hospital following major surgery, after what he described as a simple misstep escalated into something far more serious.
The 60-year-old journalist explained that he tripped on a small step while dining at a London hotel restaurant, fracturing his femur so severely that doctors had no option but to perform a full hip replacement. Taking to X, the TV personality shared the news with his trademark mix of bluntness and humour.
In his post, Morgan wrote:
“Breaking news!
1. Tripped on a small step.
2. In a London hotel restaurant.
3. Fractured femur.
4. So badly I needed a new hip.
5. Recovering in hospital.
6. Crutches for 6wks.
7. No long-haul for 12 wks.
8. New Year off to a cracking start!
9. I blame Donald Trump.”
Well wishes quickly poured in, including from broadcaster Emily Maitlis, who reacted in disbelief, and presenter Eamonn Holmes, who offered advice from experience.
Morgan has since shared an image of his X-ray and confirmed he will be on crutches for several weeks, with doctors advising against long-haul travel for three months.
